Ominous - adj. om-i-nous, Portending evil or harm; having the significance of an omen.

"Contrary to Fears, Scientists Say Atom-Smasher Will Not Spawn Earth-Swallowing Black Hole"

Phew. What a relief.

Scientists have b
uilt what they call 'the most powerful atom smasher', now I'm hoping that's not the scientific term but it's big and made of really large magnets. 17 miles big, as a matter of fact and buried really deep, about 330 feet down. The 'smasher' will be turned on in August but won't reach full power for another couple of months. I'm torn at how I feel about it, like, will nothing happen or will our skin melt from our face like in Indiana Jones in August or will it melt slowly as it powers up? So many questions. Anyway, one of the main purposes is to, maybe, discover new dimensions...weird. Check it out:

The collider could find evidence of extra dimensions, a boon for superstring theory, which holds that quarks, the particles that make up atoms, are infinitesimal vibrating strings.

The theory could resolve many of physics' unanswered questions, but requires about 10 dimensions — far more than the three spatial dimensions our senses experience.

Pretty crazy if the thing actually works. I mean, think about it, what if it actually works? What IF??? I don't think they realize what they're doing and it makes me ne
rvous but at the same time I think it is hogwash and it won't work. We shall see. I'm just amazed at what humans are doing, it made me think of this:
And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.

And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there. And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them thoroughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter. And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.

And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men built.

And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. -Gen 11:1-6

What amazes me most about those verses is that men decided to build a tower to heaven and then God saw that they could do it, men were too powerful so God separated them.

So, maybe it wasn't a tower....maybe it was a 'atom smasher'.
